School Attendance
As your child is under the age of 5 you are able to withdraw them from school without seeking school approval. This freedom allows parents to take family holidays/special days out during term times without being recorded as unauthorised absences. We would ask that children regularly attend their sessions, as much as possible, as this helps with their transition into formal education. If you do plan time off, please notify the Nursery Team so that we are not concerned if your child doesn’t arrive at their planned session.
In the interest of pupil safety all absence is monitored on a daily basis. We request that parents telephone the school on the morning of the first day of a child’s absence. If we have not heard from you, a member of staff will telephone to ensure your child is safe.
Absence Procedures
If a child is absent from Nursery the parent/carer should follow the procedures set out below:
Illness
If your child is taken ill while at school, or seriously injured here, we will contact you as soon as possible. Two up-to-date contact numbers must be held by the school at all times. Arrangements are in place for the administration of prescribed and unprescribed medicine by the Office. If you wish for the school to administer any type of medicine, please speak to Mrs Reader in the main school office for further advice. Please inform your child's class teacher in advance, if your child has an appointment during school hours. Absences should be reported to the school by telephoning the Office on the first day of absence and leaving a message on the answer phone. If your child is sick and/or has diarrhoea, please keep him/her off school for at least 48 hours following cessation of the illness. Please notify Mrs Reader, if your child has head lice. The school uses the guidelines set out in the ‘Self Care Information for Children’ booklet created by the NHS when setting our expectations for absences linked to childhood illnesses. An extract from this document can be found on the next page. If you would like to access the full document, this can be found on the school’s website.
Arriving at School
It is the responsibility of parents to make sure their child gets to and from school safely. An adult should always accompany young children to school. The Nursery door is opened at 8.30am and closes at 8.40am. Any child arriving late will need to report to the School Office. The first session will finish at 11:30am.
The second session of the day will begin at 12:30pm. The Nursery door will be closed at 12:40pm. If children arrive after this time, they will need to report to the School Office. The second session will finish at 3:30pm. It can be distressing for the children if no one is there to collect them. If you are unavoidably delayed, please phone the Office. It is very important that you let us know if anyone different is going to be picking up your child from school and this should be written on the board on the classroom door. No child is allowed to leave school without an adult.
The School is protected by a Security System. All visitors report to the main entrance and, once admitted, sign in and wear a badge. Gates across the entrance to the Nursery and Early Years Garden ensure children’s safety at all times. The Nursery and Foundation Stage playgrounds are fully fenced. Dogs are not permitted onto the school site for health and safety reasons.
Coming to School
Parents are unable to park on the school grounds. Parking in Bilton Road is very limited. There is also some parking in Scrub Lane. Please be prepared to leave your car further away from the school for the safety of all concerned. If you have to drive, can you carefully consider where you park to ensure that emergency service vehicles can access the road with ease in case of an accident.
From September, we will be offering a Parking Permit which will allow parents to park in Rectory Road Car Park. The permit is valid weekdays during term-time, up until 9:30am and between 2:45pm-4pm ONLY. If you would like to apply for a Parking Permit, please email - parentscomments@hadleigh-inf.essex.sch.uk and we can provide you with an application form to complete.
School Uniform
We ask parents to make every effort to send their child to school in the uniform listed below. The Nursery School colours are royal blue and light blue. Nursery children wear a pale blue polo shirt and a royal blue sweatshirt – both embroidered with the school logo. Non-embroidered tops - of the same colours set out above - can also be worn by the children. They can wear any trousers, or skirts, but jogging bottoms are very manageable for young children. Your child will also require a bag. It is important that all clothing including footwear is clearly marked with your child's name. This should prevent some loss of your items as they can be easily identified and returned.
Our school uniform can be purchased from Danielle’s either online - https://www.daniellesshop.co.uk/hadleigh-infants-and-nursery-school-155-c.asp or at their local shop located at Rayleigh Weir. It is also available locally at Angela’s Kids Boutique in Hadleigh, tel. no. 07866 616450 or online – http://angelaskidsboutique.co.uk We prefer children to wear uniform with the school logo but plain sweatshirts and polo shirts of the correct colour are acceptable. All the items asterixed below can be purchased from Danielle’s and Angela’s Kids Boutique.

Jewellery
No jewellery is to be worn at school. Jewellery presents a health and safety risk, therefore we ask that earrings are removed for school. In order for your child to access the whole curriculum this is a requirement for all Essex schools. If you are planning to have your child’s ears pierced please ensure you do so by the end of July at the latest, allowing them to heal and then remove them in September. If your child is required to wear an item of jewellery for religious reasons, please inform the school office.
Snack and Lunchtime Arrangements
Snack time is an important part of each session, morning/afternoon snack consists of the daily fruit or vegetables supplied by the Government. We encourage the children to bring in a named bottle of water which they can access at any time during the session. If the bottle ever becomes empty, it can be refilled from our cold water machine. The children will only be allowed to drink plain water so please do not send in any other drink. As well as water, the children will also be provided with milk when they eat their snack.
Children who stay all day will need to have a lunch at school. Unfortunately, the children in Nursery do not qualify under the Government Universal Free School Meal Scheme. We offer Nursery children the option of hot meals or sandwiches. These will cost £6.25 which includes the cost of the adult midday supervision. Alternatively, you can provide your child with a packed lunch from home, in which case you will need to pay £5.25 per lunch session to cover the cost of supervision.
Packed lunches should be healthy and consist of a balanced meal to encourage healthy eating habits and aid children’s concentration. They should be prepared in line with our Healthy School status. It is important to keep offering children healthy options in their lunch boxes. Please be realistic in the amount of food they are likely to eat. No sweets or chocolate bars, apart from a penguin type biscuit (1 only). Raw vegetables and fruit are encouraged. Water is always available.
Both our snack and lunch policies are reviewed on a regular basis by members of the school’s leadership team, health professionals and the school council.
If your child has an allergy, intolerance or is unable to eat specific foods for either medical, religious or personal reasons, please contact the main office.
We have several children and staff in school with severe nut allergies. We operate a nut free kitchen policy. Please do not send any foods containing nuts if your child brings a home packed lunch.
